I know this is not the point of the post or blog mentioned. What is an acceptable amount to pay? There will always be uniform, insurance, field and ref fees, and others costs as well. I feel like we will always have to pay something, so how much is too much?

For a team training 3 days a week - the going rate used to be $100 per kid per month for coaching fees. So for a normal 8 months length season lets, say, you would be paying $800 in coaching fees alone.
So for just one team alone, just to pay the coach, your looking at $12,000 a year.
My guess is that $100 a month per kid rate as increased recently.
I'd love to see a breakdown of our registration fees to see how the money is actually spent
-% that goes to county for fields
-% that goes to insurance
-% that goes to coach
-% that goes to club
-% that goes to salaries at club
Bottom line youth soccer is a billion dollar business and we are all being taking advantage of
A good example is uniforms alone - no reason u9-u12 teams needs to spend $350 on 2 complete kits. Go with one kit, and nice alternative training jersey as an alternate. Scrap the sweatsuits, jackets etc. save some coin for other things.

To help pay for Ga Soccer. I mean how much was that 50 year Gala at the Merc? $200K
Every time the Ga Soccer board meets they go do it over dinner and drinks and do you think it’s at Taco Mac? Try Ruth’s Chris.
I know from friends grassroots soccer in England so like our youth parks & rec club soccer is only like $100 plus uniforms per year. But that’s because the Govt. and the professional clubs subsidize the fees.
America is all about the rich stay rich and the poor stay poor. People whine about taxes, while the rich write off everything. That’s why the MLS/US Soccer doesn’t share transfer fees with the actual youth club that developed the player. You don’t want to pay $2000 for your academy kid to play well push for change. First off don’t support a corrupt system like the MLS. Second get involved in Ga Soccer and push the old rich boys club out of power. Thirdly, the mega merger clubs have to be broken up into neighborhood programs. More club competition equals lower fees. Simple capitalism.

Maybe in a few years my perspective will adjust. I’m thankful for many great friendships along the way.. But right now, after ten years as a club soccer patron, I’m mostly turned off by the business of The Beautiful Game in America.
Looking back, it feels way too similar to the HVAC repairman who is told to “get what you can get” when somebody’s AC goes out on a hot summer day.
